The following information is part of the records sent to
me reflecting the arrest and deportation to Siberia
by the NKVD of the family of Bronislawa Burak (nee Krupinska). From my
research I believe they were
sent to the Komi region.
Stories related by other family members indicate that they were sent there
primarily because they owned land.
From what I have read of documented personal accounts of others, this
is most likely true.
Being Polish alone could get one sent there, owning land made you even
worse in the eyes of the communists.
Unfortunately, theirs was not an uncommon story.
Untold millions suffered the same fate, most never returned.
Thank you to Mikhail M. for his kind help in providing me
with the following information.
He is researching the Burak family as well. His great grandfather Mikhail
Ivanovich Burak was sent to siberia
in 1917. Part of his family came to the US and he is trying to find more
about them. Please contact me if
you may be of any help.
